Inês Henriques portuguese champion on 35km with national record: 2h45’51”

Porto de Mós (POR) – National record for Inês Henriques, dominating the Portuguese women’s racewalking Championship, which this year awarded the title on 35Km in the city of Porto de Mós. The holder of the world record on the women’s 50Km, has managed with relative ease the competition, covering the first 5Km in 24’01” and increasing in regular way up to close the last 5Km in 23’04”. The final classification sees the victory of Inês Henriques with 2h45’51”, followed by Mara Ribeiro in 3h02’29” and the Spanish Maria Dolores Marcos in 3h10’14”.

After the race Inês Henriques expressed all her joy through a post with special dedication on his Instagram profile, thanking the support of public but above all exclaiming: “Crer é poder! O Nosso Corpo faz coisas fantásticas!”.

However, the day did not limit itself to the record of long distance specialist’s woman; were in fact also scheduled other races valid as a Portuguese Championship, as it was possible to participate simultaneously at both 35Km and 50Km.

In the men’s 35Km, victory for the stainless Joao Vieira in 2h38’18”, which got the better of the younger Miguel Carvalho (2h41’26”) and Miguel Rodriguez (2h43’39”). In women’s 50Km and men’s 50Km, victory respectively of the forty-two years old Sandra Silva (5h08’13”) and of Pedro Isidro (4h11’25”).

Finally, the 50Km debut of the “Pit Lane Rule”, which hit a single competitor of the men’s race with a five-minute penalty; even if it’s a novelty that should help racewalking, it becomes difficult to understand in what conditions a competitor can come back to the race after 5 minutes of waiting, especially on a 50Km.
